Female Chihuahua Names: 170 Ideas and the Club's Favorites
Female Chihuahua names our members actually chose (Chloe, Olivia, Luna, Lola), plus pretty, Mexican, funny, food, luxury and elegant girl names for your pup.
Searching for female Chihuahua names comes with a trap: ninety percent of the lists online give you Princess, Bella and Lulu and stop there. This one starts somewhere else: with the names that the families in our club actually chose, and there are 160 members now from twelve countries. Then it opens up by style, so you can find the one that suits your girl.
At home we lean toward old-man names for our boys (Romeo Carlitos and Lorenzo Pablito), so if I had a female, she’d probably be called Teresa or Carmencita. You’ll see I’m not the only one.
What are the most popular female Chihuahua names in the club?
From our member registry, these are the girl names that repeat most:
| Name | Count | Where they live |
|---|---|---|
| Chloe (incl. Chloé and Clohe) | 5 | Ecuador, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela |
| Olivia | 4 | Argentina (three) and Uruguay |
| Luna | 2 | Argentina and El Salvador |
| Lola | 2 | Argentina |
| Lupita | 2 | Argentina |
| Paris | 2 | Argentina and Spain |
| Tiffany | 2 | Argentina |
With one member each: Frida, Gala, Nina, Zoe, Mía, Roma, Canela, Bellota, Cookie, Nutella, Mocca, Prada, Fendi, Channel, Suki, Haru, Kiki, Lila, Lilith, Leela, Indie, Maddy, Mery, Marlem, Ámbar, Ciel, Sasy, Rufi, Loli, Lupe, Sara, Mayra, Victoria, Teresa, Tania, Dulce María, María Pita, Pepa Ramona, Morena, Muñeca, Chiquita, Bonnie Killer, Herita Verita and Madison Cuchicuchi, who has a first and last name because she earned it.
The pattern is clear: women’s names of two or three syllables (Olivia, Chloe, Luna), luxury brands for the contrast with her size (Prada, Fendi, Channel, Tiffany), and food. The luxury thing is very Chihuahua: there’s no Labrador out there named Fendi.

Elegant, grand-lady names
My weakness. A Chihuahua named Teresa or Carmencita walks into any room with her head held high. The club already has a Teresa, a Victoria, a Sara, a Mayra, a María Pita and a Pepa Ramona:
Teresa · Carmen · Carmencita · Rosita · Josefina · Margarita · Dolores (Lola for short) · Ramona · Mercedes · Doña Petrona · Beatrice · Dorothy · Betty · Doris · Agnes · Edna · Ethel · Florence · Gertrude · Harriet · Mabel · Marjorie · Mildred · Opal · Rosemary · Winifred · Eleanor · Matilda · Ursula · Clementine
How do you choose a name (and get her to come when called)?
- Two syllables and an open vowel. “Lola,” “Luna” and “Nina” carry over the noise at the park. “Maximiliana” doesn’t; if you choose it, always call her “Maxi.”
- Make sure it doesn’t sound like a cue. “Kit” sounds like “sit,” “Bo” like “no.” If the name rhymes with a command, you’ll confuse her.
- Don’t use the name of someone in the house. It seems obvious until your dog and your sister turn around at the same time.
- Try yelling it. Queen Mother is wonderful at home and a lot harder across a dog park.
- Teach it with treats, never with scolding. Name, eye contact, treat. Ten times a day, for a week. If you use it to scold her, she’ll stop coming. The whole puppy stage, week by week, is in your 2-month-old Chihuahua.
Still need ideas for a boy, or want to compare with the full list? Our main guide to Chihuahua names covers both. And if she isn’t home yet, the name can wait: what can’t wait is reading before getting a Chihuahua, which is where it’s really decided whether she’ll be Olivia, Killer or Doña Petrona.
